Escape Room Inspired Indoor Entertainment Concept Opens in Derry

Playing an escape room involves doing everything you can to ‘escape’ from a confined space. The Mission Zone, a new entertainment business in Derry, New Hampshire, is using the escape room concept but turning the tables – players will have to solve problems to break into a series of locked rooms!

The concept owner, Josh Rutstein, says at least two people must come to the venue with smartphones and download the unique smartphone app, which is designed to receive instructions and clues throughout the ‘mission’ – as players take on the role of secret agents.

The technology currently in use via the app is easy to edit, allowing the creation of new missions to be done with ease compared to traditional escape rooms, which require a complete redesign of props and themes every six months or longer. Rutstein said he could add new missions every six weeks, keeping things fresh and interesting for his customers.

There are five rooms in the 1,200-foot space and a variety of missions on offer. They range from family-friendly and educational to more difficult missions that require the use of tools in order to ‘defuse’ a fictional explosive device.

Typically, each mission will take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete and costs $10 per person, with larger-scale missions planned for the future.
