Ben Thornton, 30, and his wife Katie, 35, have completed more than 125 escape rooms across Europe in just four years, becoming experts in the process.
They enjoyed the escape experience so much that they even developed and set up their own version in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Mr Thornton most notably has blockbuster acting credentials to his name, famously starring as the young version of Christian Bale’s character in the 2002 fantasy film ‘Reign of Fire’.
His escape room journey began after falling in love with the concept, and he even went on a planned ‘escape holiday’, where he and his wife played five escape rooms every day.
Thornton said, “We went on an escaping holiday and played five games a day over there. I prefer the games with padlocks, which are known in the industry as ‘first generation’ rooms. I argue that you can’t beat that feeling of opening a padlock.”
“Sometimes New Generation games are highly technical and you can’t work out what you’ve opened with magnetic locks and electronic puzzles.”
“In this day and age, everyone is so attached to their phones and electronic screens that we don’t use our brains enough.”
“Playing an escape game is a great way to put down the phone and actually talk to your family or friends. No distractions, just bringing your family together or bonding with your colleagues and mates.”
Mr Thornton’s top tips are communicating properly with those around you, working together as a team, giving the room a full and thorough search and double-checking each of your steps in the process.
