Grundy Police Design Escape Room to Raise Money for Children’s Christmas Gifts

A police department in southwest Virginia is launching a special program to raise money for Christmas presents for local children in their community.

The Grundy Police Department in Buchanan County has been doing the holiday initiative for the past four years now – known as ‘shop with a cop’. This year however, they’re trying something different by adding their very own escape room to the agenda.

Grundy’s Police Chief, Aaron Fletcher said, “It gives our officers a chance to, I wouldn’t say mentor the kids, but they get to spend time with kids in an unofficial way in a non-confrontational environment where they get to know one another,"

He went on to say, "They have fun together. It’s been great. We’ve made a lot of friendships.”

The escape room is Zombie-apocalypse themed and participants are split into teams and given one hour to solve puzzles and escape for the win.

Tickets cost $19.99 per person and the department are hoping to cover presents for at least 100 kids – with each child given $150 for a shopping spree, a hygiene kit and a food box for their family!
