This Non-Profit has filled its Empty Office Space With Escape Rooms!

The Voluntary Resource Council (VRC) – a non-profit organisation in Charlottetown, Canada – is filing its empty office space with escape rooms with the aim of raising funds for their future endeavours.

Established in 1978, the VRC is a registered charity that supports the volunteer sector in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. They assist with renting affordable office space, as well as other inexpensive services and equipment.

VRC lost their funding a few years ago, leading to 4 rooms out of the 12 room council owned building staying empty – putting even more financial strain on both the council and the non-profit.

This was when one of the board members got the idea to turn four empty rooms into an escape room. The escape room admission fee would go towards much needed improvements to the finances of the non-profit.

The escape rooms are themed and can accommodate anywhere from two to ten players. To assist with the daily operational activity, the non-profit hired four part-time employees to get things running smoothly.

Sylvie Arsenault, the executive director of the VRC, said, “it has helped for our financial stability and the escape rooms have helped pay for renovations to our building.”

She went on to say, “Our mandate is to support he voluntary sector […] but right now, the income from the escape rooms provide some funding for us to run the centre.”

So if you’ve got empty space, turn it into your very own escape room!
