A Tennessee startup in the city of Chattanooga has experience in specialised immersive events and activities that focus on teaching their guests a new language – with a particular focus on Spanish.
‘Language South’ previously created an immersive summer camp for elementary and high school students called El Pueblo Spanish Camp, so they are no strangers to events that have an emphasis on immersion.
Teo and Emily Valdes – the husband and wife team behind the concept – decided to expand their business and venture into the escape room industry.
Paige Moffett, the operations manager and camp director for Language South said, “We are trying to find ways to expand into adult language experiences,”
“The escape room came out of thinking of more evening events we could host.”
The intention of the room is to increase user exposure to a foreign language, though it must be said that players won’t fail to escape if they speak in English or ask questions. The idea is to be inclusive to everyone who wants to play.
The room itself will see players locked in the Language South’s office whilst preparing for a trip to South America. The unnamed villain’s motive behind the imprisonment is the refusal for foreigners to learn Spanish.
A staff member will also be participating in the game and take on the role of a live escape actor – providing tips and clues when they’re asked.
“Our overall mission is to be supporting people on their language-learning journey. It’s part of our idea of being lifelong learners.” Valdes said.
