Children Create Augmented Reality Escape Room

Children in NSW have been celebrating NSW Youth Week in style.

Using the Metaverse app, a free app that allows users to create their own interactive augmented reality (AR) experiences, children were able to create their own virtual escape room at the Bathurst Library in Bathurst, NSW.

The AR escape rooms are first created using PC, which then allows users to play them using their smartphones. This method reduces the labour of setting up a physical escape room and cleverly incorporates modern technology to provide children with a fun and interactive experience.

Natalie Conn, Bathurst’s outreach program officer, outlined the goal of the AR escape rooms saying, “ours is a challenge to find certain things and hide them in the library”

“The teams that come in on Thursday will have to try and escape the building with the AR that was created on Wednesday”

“In the past we’ve created a physical escape room in the library.”

The library is running multiple AR escape room sessions, which are proving to be a hit among its young audience.
